Call for Nominations: Distinguished Woman in Philosophy Award

Call for Nominations

Each year the Eastern Division of the Society for Women in Philosophy comes together to honor a woman philosopher whose contributions to the support of women in philosophy and to philosophy itself are outstanding and merit special recognition. 

A panel and reception celebrating the honoree’s accomplishments will be organized for the Eastern Division meeting of the American Philosophical Association, January 6-9, 2016 in Washington, DC.

Nominations should include a copy of the nominee’s curriculum vitae and a minimum of two supporting letters, which summarize the nominee’s contributions to philosophy and support of women in philosophy.

Two-thirds of letter writers for any given nomination must be members of the Society for Women in Philosophy in good standing.

Please email all nominations to Johanna Luttrell, ESWIP Distinguished Secretary (jluttre2@central.uh.edu) no later than June 15^th, 2015.  Please put “DWP Nomination” in the subject line.

FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS: ESWIP DUES

It’s that time of year again! We are reaching out to you today to kindly ask you to submit your annual membership dues to ESWIP. Eastern SWIP is supported by annual dues and sometimes receives institutional support from the colleges and universities that agree to host our annual conference.  Our funds are spent mainly on our annual conference expenses (light refreshments and room fees) and a panel at the Eastern APA. Additionally, as a member of SWIP, you are entitled to a discount on a print subscription to Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy. After paying your SWIP dues, please go to the Hypatia subscription page directly to subscribe.

Full-time professional    $30.00

Part-time professional    $20.00

Student/underemployed     $10.00

What is ESWIP and what do we do?
We are a professional organization, affiliated with the larger SWIP (Society for Women in Philosophy) community, and also the APA (American Philosophical Association). Every year, we elect by committee and honor a "Distinguished Woman in Philosophy" at the APA meeting, and gather for a reception there as well. In addition, we hold a conference in the spring, to which all are welcome to submit. Past conference themes have included the meaning of hope, and feminist pedagogy.  We aim to be an inclusive and encouraging group that fosters growth and support for women and feminist-friendly scholars in our field.
